We Love The Ponds Project
29th July 2015

A group of awesome volunteers met together with Aimee, Brendan and Claire, environmental projects officers from Blacktown City Council, to do a “Litter Audit” in selected parks at The Ponds on the weekend. This is a step towards forming a plan to tackle some environmental challenges, namely rubbish and dog poo. They met at Waterfall Park and then moved onto the back and front areas of Jonas Bradley Oval and LakesEdge Park. They discovered that 60% of the litter at Waterfall Park was cigarette butts (come on smokers you can do better!). LakesEdge Park is heavily used and an additional bin would help, as would signage discouraging people from feeding the ducks. Did you know that feeding ducks bread is like giving them junk food? Jonas Bradley Oval could benefit from an additional bin and signage to encourage people to do the right thing. Thank you to all who participated. We have some great plans we will share with you in the near future!
